Leslie Centeno
Leslie Centeno (b. 1982) is a graduate of BS Architecture from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) with a passion for blending the technical and the artistic. Since 2004, Leslie has worked in events and stage design, specializing in technical plans, layouts, and design coordination for theater and live productions. Collaborating closely with acclaimed scenographer Gino Gonzales, Leslie has contributed to numerous notable projects, while also exploring interior and stage design independently.
Leslie’s journey into illustration began as a hobby but soon grew into a professional pursuit. Rooted in an architectural background, Leslie excels in creating detailed architectural illustrations, particularly through collaborations with Gentry Press. Childhood influences, including anime and editorial cartooning for school papers, have shaped a foundation of precision and creativity that continues to shine through Leslie’s work.
Fascinated by the intricacies of detail, Leslie enjoys illustrating botanical subjects and architectural elements in watercolor and ink. From sketching plants to capturing expressive faces, the process is a testament to Leslie’s love for meticulous artistry. While watercolor is Leslie’s primary medium, pencil and ink remain personal favorites, and there is a keen interest in exploring new mediums like acrylic, gouache, and oil.
Currently, Leslie is illustrating a book on Theravada Temples for Gentry Press and expanding into embroidery art, transforming sketches into unique fabric designs. This blend of traditional and experimental art forms reflects a commitment to continual growth and exploration.
For aspiring artists, Leslie shares this wisdom: “Never stop exploring new mediums and styles. Draw inspiration from everything around you—what you see, feel, and hear. Don’t overthink your process; let your creativity flow naturally and embrace the journey of discovery.”
