Allan Quesada
Allan Quesada (b. 1987) is a seasoned illustrator with a background in architecture and a passion for ecclesiastical art. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of the City of Manila and worked as an architect for over a decade, honing his drawing skills and understanding of perspective. His artistic journey, however, extends beyond architecture, deeply rooted in his admiration for the great Renaissance masters like Da Vinci and Michelangelo, who influenced his realistic style.
Allan’s illustrations are characterized by their detailed and soulful depictions of architecture, particularly houses of worship. His love for ecclesiastical art began in his childhood, with his first drawing at the age of five being of a basilica. Over the years, his professional travels across the Philippines gave him the opportunity to sketch the churches and cathedrals of the towns and cities he visited, capturing the essence of each structure.
Primarily working in watercolor, Allan also utilizes oil, pastel, ink, and acrylic to bring his illustrations to life. His proudest achievement as an illustrator is his first illustrated book, Simbahán, which focuses on the Philippine Catholic Church—his most beloved subject.
Allan recently finished an illustrated book on Gurudwaras, set to be released in 2025, and is currently working on a book on Zoroastrian Fire Temples. You can find him creating art content on YouTube through his channel, Watercolors by Allan Jay Quesada. In addition, he is pursuing architectural photography and planning to revisit oil painting.
Allan’s advice to aspiring artists: “Continue practicing, stay humble, and don’t forget to rest. Art thrives in balance and inspiration.”
